Psalm 120 and 121

last sunday we started a series on the Psalms of Ascents which will take us through the fall in Psalm 120-134

as we were thinking about these first two chapters, melodies started to rise up in my head, so i jotted down a song from these chapters, and recorded this practice tape for the band to listen to before sunday:

i cry to you in my distress and you hear me when i call
so save me lord from lying lips and from deceitful tongues

what more will be given to you
what more will be done for you
lying lips and all deceitful tongues
a warrior’s arrows
glowing and burning coals
lying lips and all deceitful tongues

how i suffer in far off places
how i tire from living with
the lying lips and all deceitful tongues
yeah, how i suffer in far off places
how i tire from living with
my lying lips and my deceitful tongue

i search for peace
but when i speak of peace, all i see is war

i lift my eyes to the hills
where does my help come from
my help comes from the lord
who made the earth and all that is in it
and heaven on high

he will not let your foot be moved
he who keeps you will not fall asleep
behold, he who keeps israel
will never slumber or sleep

the lord will protect you
the lord is a shelter right by your side
the sun will not strike you
by day or the moon by night

the lord will keep you from evil
he will keep your life
the lord will keep you coming and going
both now and forevermore
